What is a mushroom tincture?

A mushroom tincture is a concentrated liquid extract made by soaking mushrooms in a solvent to release their beneficial active compounds. Mushroom tinctures offer an easy, convenient, and effective way to receive the healing benefits of functional fungi.

Tinctures can be added to any hot or cold beverage or, more traditionally, dropped directly under the tongue for faster absorption.

Benefits of Tinctures

Easy to Add to Your Routine

Functional mushroom tinctures are an easy and convenient way to incorporate the benefits of mushrooms into your daily routine. Tincures can be added to your morning coffee, smoothie, or simply dropped under the tongue for a quick and effortless boost.

Potent and Highly Bioavailable

Mushroom tinctures are very concentrated, meaning you’ll receive an abundance of high-potency nutrients in a small amount of liquid. Unlike other forms of mushroom supplements, such as powders or capsules, tinctures are thoroughly extracted and are quickly absorbed by the body.

Easy to Swallow and Digest

Functional mushroom tinctures are an excellent option for those who struggle with swallowing pills or capsules. Tinctures can be easily added to your favourite beverage or taken directly under the tongue for faster absorption.

Minimal Clean Up

One of the benefits of using tinctures is their ease of use compared to powders. With powders, there is often a lot of mess involved in measuring and more effort in mixing them into various beverages, which can be time-consuming and frustrating. In contrast, tinctures blend seamlessly into any beverage with minimal effort.

Long Shelf Life and Easy Storage

Our Alcohol-Free tinctures (made with vegetable glycerin) and our Original tinctures (made with alcohol) both have a shelf life of up to two years. You can find the expiration date printed on the bottle and on the bottom of the box. This means you can confidently stock up on your preferred tincture format for long-term use. Simply store both opened or unopened tinctures in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.

Why is extraction necessary?

Functional mushrooms contain several bioactive and therapeutic compounds; however, these compounds are locked behind the mushroom’s cell wall. The cell wall is made of a strong substance called chitin (kai·tn)—the same substance that makes up the tough shell of crabs, lobsters, and insects. The human body cannot break down chitin, so the mushrooms must undergo an extraction process to unlock the beneficial compounds within the cell wall.

How We Make Our Tinctures

We use an industry-leading, ultrasonic extraction method to produce high-potency dual-extracts. We only use essential ingredients to deliver maximum efficacy. This includes mushroom fruit bodies, purified water, alcohol (for our Original tinctures) and vegetable glycerin (for our Alcohol-Free tinctures).

  • Original Tinctures

The Original Tincture is our traditional and most recognized format, made with organic, cane-derived ethyl alcohol, resulting in a rich, earthy mushroom flavour and a thin consistency that blends seamlessly into any beverage.

  • Alcohol Free Tinctures

The Alcohol-Free Tincture is our accessible format for those who want to reap the benefits of functional mushrooms but cannot consume alcohol for various reasons. This format is made with vegetable glycerin, which has a sweet taste and syrup-like consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do they taste like?

Our Original (alcohol-based) tincture has a more potent, earthy flavour, whereas our Alcohol-Free (glycerin-based) tincture has a sweet taste and syrupy consistency.

Can I use more than one mushroom tincture at a time?

Yes! But we recommend starting with one mushroom tincture at the recommended daily dosage for up to two weeks to see how your body responds before adding another tincture to your routine.

How long does it take to experience any benefits?

Mushroom tinctures work best when taken regularly—ideally daily—and when used in conjunction with other health behaviours such as exercise, eating a healthy diet, restorative sleep, and stress reduction. Most observe physical and mental health benefits after two to four weeks of consistent use.

How long will one 118 ml bottle of tincture last?

If you are consuming the recommended dose of 4 ml per day, the bottle will last approximately 30 days.

Which beverages can I add tinctures to?

You may add tinctures to any hot or cold beverage, including coffee, tea, water, and smoothies. Please note that the Alcohol-Free tincture has a sweet taste and, as such, may alter the taste of your beverage.

Is the Original tincture more effective than the Alcohol-Free tincture?

Both are equally potent and bioavailable. The Alcohol-Free format will not impact glucose levels, and the decision comes down to personal preference.

Which mushroom do I choose?

It depends on your needs since they each offer unique benefits. Think about your diet, lifestyle, and how each mushroom can help support your overall health. If you need more specific guidance or support, we recommend consulting a natural health practitioner.

How do I store my tinctures?

Tinctures can be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Refrigeration is not required.
