Forage also utilizes cultivated Lion’s Mane, Shiitake, and Cordyceps mushrooms, grown without fillers or grains on a gluten-free substrate. These mushrooms are exclusively sourced from our sister company, Heartee Foods, which produces them and many more in off-grid shipping containers. These containers are Global G.A.P. certified, ensuring the mushrooms are cultivated under strict quality control measures.
Growing, rather than foraging, our own Lion’s Mane, Shiitake, and Cordyceps mushrooms is a decision driven by several factors. Lion’s Mane has a relatively short natural growing season, does not grow in large clusters, and requires extensive cleaning due to its tendency to harbor insects. Cordyceps, on the other hand, is rarely found in the wild in North America and is traditionally challenging to cultivate outside of specialized conditions. By growing our own, we ensure a consistent, high-quality supply year-round that meets our strict purity and safety standards. While found in the wild, Shiitake is better cultivated for sustainability, ensuring a controlled, clean environment free from contaminants.
