Benefits of Chaga

Antioxidants

In response to stress and pollutants, our bodies produce what are called “free radicals”, unstable molecules which can damage cells and DNA in a process called “oxidation”. Chaga is very rich in antioxidants that protect your cells from the oxidative stress caused by free radicals.

Immunomodulator

Fungal polysaccharides, found in Chaga, have immunomodulating properties: they support balanced immune functioning. Not only do they support a sluggish immune system to ward off illness, they can also work to suppress the hyperactive immune functioning associated with inflammation and allergies.

Digestive Health

Research suggests that Chaga stimulates bile flow, which is important in the body’s processes for digesting fat. It has also been known to reduce inflammation in the digestive tract.

FAQs

What is Chaga?

Although it’s typically referred to as a mushroom, Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is actually a sclerotia—a hardened mass of fungal mycelium. As a parasitic fungus, Chaga primarily grows on birch trees in cold climates where it appears as a black, charcoal-like mass with a woody, orange interior.

Why wild-harvested Chaga?

Betulinic acid is responsible for much of Chaga’s antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. This compound is found in the bark of birch trees. Unlike mycelium cultivated Chaga, wild-harvested Chaga absorbs betulinic acid from the birch trunks it grows on. What does Chaga tea taste like?

You know how some teas are pretty mild-tasting and you have to search for the flavour? That’s not the case with Chaga! Chaga has a unique, strong, smooth flavour—similar to the full-bodied flavour of a medium roast coffee, with a hint of vanilla. Many people drink Chaga tea straight, but you can also dress it up by adding your milk or sweetener of choice.

When should I consume Chaga tea? How much should I consume in a day?

Chaga is safe to consume virtually anytime, but you may especially notice the benefits when you’re:

- Feeling tired: Chaga can promote balanced energy throughout the day, without crashing or jitters.

- Entering flu season: Chaga supports the immune system to prevent the body succumbing to illness.

- When you’re sick: If you do fall ill, Chaga can help to speed up your recovery time.

- Before bed: Chaga can help us be more adaptable to stress, helping to fall into deep sleep sooner and longer.

It’s best to consume 1-2 cups of Chaga tea a day. We don’t recommend exceeding this amount on a daily basis. Speak with your healthcare practitioner about how Chaga may interact with any pre-existing conditions you may have or medications you may be taking.

Does Chaga contain caffeine?

Chaga is caffeine-free! With its stress-reducing properties, Chaga can help you get a deep, restorative sleep so you’re well-rested for the day ahead. On the other hand, Chaga makes a great alternative to coffee or black tea for those trying to reduce or eliminate caffeine intake.
